About opensourcevst.com

Open-source VST, CLAP, AU and LV2 plugins, synths, amp simulators and DAWs, each with its formats, systems and licence, and the paid tools they stand in for.

• What gets listed

Open-source plugins, instruments and DAWs with source code you can read under a recognised licence, a working download for at least one system, and a project that is not archived.

• Licence

Checked against the project's own licence file. When a project has paid tiers, closed builds or restrictions on how it is distributed, the entry says so.

• Formats and systems

Taken from the project's release downloads and documentation. When a project does not say which plugin formats it ships, we leave the field empty rather than guess.

• Active, Quiet, Dormant

Based on the newest commit or release on GitHub: Active within a year, Quiet within two years, Dormant after that.

• Alternatives

An alternative covers part of what a paid product does. It is a starting point for choosing, not a claim that the two are the same.
